About Me

Hello there! My name is Amanda Patterson and I am a 2nd grade teacher. I absolutely LOVE teaching, although it didn't start out that way :). I come from a family of educators, so needless to say, it wasn't something that I gravitated toward when entering college. After changing my major twice, teaching found its way into my life and CHOSE me! I fell head over heels and have been teaching now for 8 years. I started my teaching career in 3rd grade, which was awesome. Those 3rd graders were independent and had a joy for learning. During my 3rd year of teaching, I got moved to 2nd grade, due to budget cuts, and I didn't realize what I was missing. 2nd graders are unique in their love for learning, innocent spirits, and their vast learning growth. Second grade is where my heart is right now, but I find joy in any grade that I teach.

My husband and I will be celebrating our 10 year anniversary this August! We met our senior year of high school and have been inseparable ever since. My awesome husband gets dragged into helping me with "school stuff"! He helps grade papers, listens to me vent and share exciting classroom stories, and MOST IMPORTANTLY helps create themed pieces for my classroom each year. He is quite the handy-man!

I have two children, Grayson and Violet, who keep me on my toes! These two are super energetic, crazy smart, and filled with love. We are so blessed that GOD chose us to be their parents.

I started this blog as a way of sharing my classroom adventures with others and as a way to connect with other educators. I am always looking for the next best thing, but am also a firm believer in "tried and true" accomplishments.  Patterson in Primary is a blog that will highlight the NEW things that I try in my classroom and that have WORKED for me. I would also love to highlight other teacher's "tried and true" accomplishments in their classrooms.
